Casey's life as a young man was full of violence and misery. With an extremely abusive father, he and his mother endured brutal mental and physical abuse. He turned to gangs as a teen, and was a "shot caller" for one of Los Angeles' Hispanic gangs before the age of 15. Casey was wanted, caught, and convicted of murder of another gang member as a teen, but tried as an adult. He was sent to Fulsom prison where he spent most of his time in solitary confinement. Casey was angry, bitter, and never knew love, compassion, or forgiveness. Until one day, God spoke to him in images. His life was never the same again.
