March 2014. The Coltelleria Lorenzi, an historic shop located in Via Monte Napoleone, has closed. Founded in 1929, it was an essential reference point for a certain part of Milan that is slowly disappearing. Gianluca Migliarotti, director and loving customer, felt the need to make the experience of Aldo Lorenzi and his wife Edda memorable. That's why he decided to shoot A Knife Life, a documentary film produced by Kid Dandy, as a way to thank a special place which was built around a precise concept and knowledge of the art of the knife and all the values that surround it. A Knife Life tells the story of a man who is in love with his job. But it would be impossible narrate this without mentioning the essential role of his wife Edda in his professional and emotional life. A Knife Life is the story of two complementary personalities who succeeded in building a life together by investing their energy in a successful shared project. The movie alternates the two voices, giving us two compelling portraits. Aldo Lorenzi, son of a farmer who left the mountains to move to Milan and become a knife grinder, meets Edda at school. He is pragmatic and a man of action; she is contemplative and has a passion for books and culture. They get married, and the adventure begins, traveling around Europe in the saddle of the Moto Guzzi Galletto, seeking ancient books that reveal secrets, going overseas and hunting American cutlers who make unique collection knives. A job based on dedication, studies, constant updates and cataloguing, that will lead to the collection of over 18000 commercial and 2000 exposition items, never loosing the "sense of the goal".
