Whole (2016)

A crack is appearing right in front of Steve's face. A wet, broken opening in the ceiling above his bed. He stares at it every night before he goes to sleep. In the morning, it's still there, mocking him. Despondent, frustrated, and humiliated at his office job, Steve shuffles through his daily routines. His world has turned grey. At home, his family barely speak to him. His son's personality has dissipated into his phone, while his wife has become a dejected stranger. How could life have become so disappointing? One night, Steve slips out of bed, tiptoes downstairs and leaves. He drives around looking for a sign: something to match the frustration eating at him. On a whim, he buys some drugs and then decides to visit a brothel. The girl's room is a new frontier of colour, promise and desire. In this little world, Steve is finally in control, and he wants to demonstrate just how furious he feels. At dawn, he gets home and slips inside. On the ceiling, right before his eyes, the crack taunts him with it's sarcastic smile.
