This film is based on the true story of Thurgood Marshall, a lawyer who would become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice. Set in 1940s America, Marshall is assigned to defend Joseph Spell, an African-American chauffeur accused of sexually assaulting his employer. Due to prevailing racism and prejudice, Marshall is not allowed to speak in court, so he teams up with an attorney, Sam Friedman, forming an alliance in order to practice defense in a biased court system so that Spell gets a fair trial. An exploration of racial inequality and the struggle for fair justice that is also entertaining to watch, with a fine duo of Chadwick Boseman and Josh Gad.
