They use the "N word" a good amount of times. this is used in the context of the era and the musical itself never condones the use of it.

The character Velma calls black people "Negros" more often than others and wants to get rid of "Negro day" so it's only white people on TV.

Segregation is front and centre in this musical a lot of racism which may upset people especially during the protest.

Despite the heavy topic of the musical the show is actually quite humorous and is a feel good experience.

This film is set in 1962 when racial segregation was common several instances of this are shown such as a rope separating black and white teens at a dance party, the detention room being full of black students and black dancers only being allowed to perform once a month on a popular TV show the word negro is used during these scenes.

The song "I know where I've Been " may make viewers emotional especially for those who have experienced racial discrimination.
