When April Hynes' grandfather unearthed a face jug in 1952 in Philadelphia, he unleashed a force that connected her to powers she could hardly imagine. When April inherits that same piece of pottery in 2010, she becomes enmeshed in a centuries-old tale which weaves together the history of survivors from the slave ship Wanderer, their captivity in the Edgefield/Aiken, SC, area potteries in the 1850s and 1860s and the controversial provenance of the "face jugs".
