Chiaroscuro (2016)

During the hottest day of the last year (2nd July 2015), in London Somerset House a distinguished art professor had an intuition about a painting made by the Jewish artist David Bomberg, son of polish migrants grew up in the East End of London in the early 20th century. What if a different composition is hidden underneath the actual painting? Starting from this moment, the film investigates David Bomberg's incredible life and artistic skills, in order to understand the mistery behind the 'Ghetto Theatre' (1920) canvas and his mysterious life. Thanks to the contributes of the art critic Richard Corke, the Jewish scholar David Mazower and Cecily Bomberg (niece of the painter), the film tries to reply the many questions included within the painter personal history: is something changed around migration in the last hundred years? Why the artist David Bomberg hasn't been considered during his lifetime? Is there really a different composition underneath the 'Ghetto Theatre' painting? There is only a single chance for knowing the answer to this mistery...someone has to x-ray to painting in order to reveal its own hidden secrets..
