While investigating an explosive story in Los Angeles, a newspaper reporter crosses the line and finds himself in trouble with his publisher. As a punishment, he is banished from the big city and sent by his editor to cover a trivial small town story. On his way to cover this humiliating assignment, he stumbles across a great idea for a book. He suddenly shifts gears in pursuit of his dream to become an author. He becomes consumed with uncovering the secrets of the townspeople within the borders of one randomly selected town. "Secrets of a Small Town" pulls back the curtain on Anywhere, USA, and shines a light on the unseen side of ordinary people to reveal the one thing they thought they would keep buried forever. The seduction of being immortalized in a book and having the attention of a stranger from The Big City proves to be the right combination to unlock their revealing and surprising secrets. As the story unfolds, we are lead through a typical town to uncover the human mistakes, crimes, passions, indiscretions, embarrassments, and sins of its citizens. Our story removes the mask that small-town America wears all too well in order to reveal the true faces of its inhabitants - and the one surprising Big Secret this town has locked away. The secrets revealed include candid, sometimes chilling, other times humorous, and oftentimes bizarre revelations - the guilts, shames, and true-to-life dramas of perfectly ordinary people in a seemingly perfect place. The folks in the town have known each other for years, with their lives intertwined and sometimes tangled, yet it takes a stranger to get them to confess things they wouldn't admit to their closest friends and most trusted family members. What starts out as a "study of the human heart in conflict with itself" -- a Rockwellian character study -- mutates into a suspense thriller.
