---SPOILERS ALERT--- Set on the fateful date; August 6th, 1945. Okinawa. Six weeks post-battle, a squad of U.S. Marines is assigned the unenviable and tedious job of clearing caves where fanatical Japanese soldiers hold out and forlorn Okinawan civilians seek refuge. After 3+ years of blood-soaked island-hopping, Stg. Woodson leads Cpl. Blackhat, Pfc. DuBois and newbie replacement, Pvt. Morris across terrain that, for three horrific months, was fought for at an unimaginable cost of human life; The toll of these experiences, and the anticipation of the presumed invasion of the Japanese mainland, constantly in mind. Despite their ever-uncertain mortality, each man's method for dealing with the deeply embedded fatigue of battle is as different as each of their desired post-war futures-- yet they must see the war through to the very end. Little do they know, the same morning they encounter an elderly Okinawan man and his daughter, their war would end, and the world would change forever as Hiroshima is bombed.
