Elizabeth Robertson gets a job at the "Bureau of Christian Unity for Israel" in Jerusalem and then unexpectedly falls in love with a resolute Orthodox Jew. After being labelled a "religious and security risk" and deported back to Cape Town, she starts a process of converting to Judaism. But only days before her wedding, she is told that she needs to renounce Jesus as the Messiah before her conversion can be approved; she chooses Jesus. In the aftermath she is torn between moving forward with her life or going back to the love she has lost. On an attempted return to Israel she finally comes to realize, while locked in a jail cell, that there is a far greater love than that between a man and a woman or a woman and the country she loves.
