Cage 'Pa' Mondier (John Russell) is returning from the Civil War with his sons, Whipple (John Ashley) and Till (Billy Hughes), to their home town of Winslow, Arkansas; but the great difference is they had fought with the Union Army instead of their native South. Before the Mondiers have a chance to see their home, they fall victims to an ambush by the southern raiders led by Mort Fagan (Myron Healy). 'Pa" Mondier is wounded and dies shortly after arriving home. The punitive faction is headed by a self-righteous Colonel Joe Ab Culen (Dan Whire), who is determined to hang every local man who fought for the Union. The Mondier men are no exception, even though Cullen's daughter, Laries (Susan Houston) , was, before the war, engaged to marry the older of the Mondier boys. The open animosity culminates in the Mondiers being accused of cattle rustling. Whipple dares fate by leading a raid at a hideout where Mort Fagan is suspected to be hiding all the livestock that he stole from both sides.
