Sholay means "embers" in Hindi. In this film, a police officer whose family was filled by a bandit named Gabbar Singh decides to fight fire with fire and requires two convicts, Jai and Veeru, to capture Gabbar. He approaches them in jail and puts the proposal in front of them, and they agree to bring in Gabbar Singh alive--for a hefty price. After their discharge from jail, they travel by train to the village where the police officer lives with his widowed daughter-in-law. The three band together to fight one of the most elusive and dreaded bandits of all time. Will the two ex-cons be able to bring Gabbar alive to the police officer?

Parent Guide

A man gets his arms sliced off by another man with 2 swords. However, not shown.

A police guard is seen with a bullet wound on his chest and passes out but remains alive afterwards.

A man accidentally cuts a man shaving. However, the cut is not shown.

A prison guard tends to slip meant times. Meant for comedic value.

A prisoner lures a prison guard in and knocks him out. Comedic.

During a train sequence, bandits shoot police guards on a train. An arrested man beats a bandit. They physically tackle each other when almost getting burnt near the fireplace of the train, and punches him off.

At the beginning, bandits are seen to be shooting police guards on a train. They chase down the train and a few end up getting on and are beaten and kicked off the train. Petrol is poured on a few of them as a prisoner pours hot coal and explodes. One bandit is shot while running on the roof of the train car.

2 men walk into a room where they are attacked by men and physically fight. Many punches, kicks, strangling, and throwing each other on walls and cupboards. They kick the 2 out the windows. However, it is revealed they fought them to prove their courage and strengths.

After Veeru harrasses Basanti whilst teaching her to use a gun, he throws his shoe at Jai. Not shown.

3 bandits are shot by 2 men at a far away distance. They are all slightly injured and one is seen with blood briefly spurting out. Later, one of them has their gun shot from them.

After Gabbar Singh gun threatens 3 of his men and no gunshots happen, he laughs which led to all of his men laugh, and out of nowhere shoots 3 of his men who failed his mission.

The village is attacked by bandits. It begins with the roundabout roof exploding and caught on fire. Guns fire towards innocent people screaming and running away. Some people are seen being ran over, one being hit by a gun and one falling off a roof, and a house being taken down by chains. 2 men bravely fight against them.

Jai throws colourful powder at Gabbar and both him and Veeru attempt to escape with Basanti. They keep on shooting the bandits until they flee. No blood is shown throughout the sequence.

2 men detonates a fire camp. Explosions occur and horses scream.

During a detonation of a fire camp, Jai is shot and injured.

During a song-and-dance scene, a woman throws a man off her carriage. Comedic.

Jai and Veeru play dead and shoot the bandits. One is injured. Brief blood is seen.

As Basanti is chased by bandits, she whips one of them in the face.

Basanti's carriage crashes down. She is okay but gets captured by Gabbar's men. Veeru jumps on a bandit but gets caught quickly.

A bandit is shot dead.

Several beatings and shootings often with bloody results.
