Viktor Berg is a Stockholm-based shopkeeper and salesman who spends his summers shopping around Åland. This summer, his son Erik is travelling abroad and won't be going with him. Viktor's wife Karin doesn't want to make love to him on the last night, so Viktor rapes her, smashes things in the shop and leaves in his van. In Åland, Viktor convinces a rich widow to sell him her property, claiming to be a widower himself. However, many locals recognise him as "Lumppu-Victor" and refuse to sell anything. Viktor gets to know the people of Djupviken's house after almost running over a young girl, Agneta, and her grandmother Astrid, and is offered a place to stay in the house's sauna. Agneta's father, Harald, is a Jewish man who works in a lime factory, while her mother Agnes keeps to herself and cries at night. Agneta says she doesn't want to grow up and asks Viktor to drive her father away so he can't hurt her. Viktor begins to feel attracted to Agneta, kisses her and caresses her naked body, and promises to help.
