Max Kowalski, miner in the Ruhr district, mourns the loss of his son Heinrich. A hard blow for the widowed father Max, which he tries to drown in alcohol. His daughter Sabine is having problems with her boyfriend Jochen. Besides all this Max fears unemployment.
