Jezebel (1938)

In the sultry heat of 1852 New Orleans, headstrong belle Julie Marsden is engaged to the accomplished banker Preston "Pres" Dillard. When Pres prioritizes a business meeting over escorting her to a dress fitting, Julie retaliates by purchasing a scandalous red gown for the Olympus Ball, where unmarried women traditionally wear white. Her defiance leads to a dramatic fallout with Pres, who leaves her in the wake of the scandal. A year later, Pres returns with a new wife.
