Smart Woman (1948)

In a slightly sexually provocative scene for the time, the male protagonist is seen in a thin undershirt in front of reporters (who barge into his train compartment on arrival). In another scene, the male protagonist tenderly calls his woman an "idiot."

It is implied a man slaps a woman. We see his arm moving and her reaction but the violence occurs slightly off screen. Murders occur off screen. A man is assaulted in a parking garage but unharmed.

Cigarette smoking. Social alcohol consumption.

Some of the main characters are menacing types tending to violence, even violence against women. A woman is being blackmailed throughout the film; her secret is not revealed until the very end.
