Suspense (1946)

Penniless, Joe Morgan has just arrived in Los Angeles looking for work. Through an acquaintance of sorts, Joe is able to get a menial job working for Frank Leonard, the impresario of a successful ice skating show starring his wife, Roberta Elva. Joe is able to make a name for himself in the organization and quickly rises through the ranks to a managerial position, second in charge. Joe is largely doing so in being attracted to Roberta, who initially rebuffs his advances but who eventually does succumb to them. What happens between the three of them is affected by how much Frank knows or believes he knows about what is going on between Joe and Roberta, and Joe's shady New York past catching up with him, part of that past which comes in the form of obsessive ex-girlfriend from Chicago, Ronnie.
