Voyage to Grand Tartarie (1974)

After his wife is murdered in the middle of the street by a maniac with a gun, Alexis empties his bank account, leaves his job and his friends to go on an adventure. As the days go by, he becomes interested in and witnesses the spectacle of the street. Here, peasants block the roads, further on, he is told, angry shopkeepers, while on television, the conspirators of a province in revolt are shot live. His meeting with Daphne will upset his program. He moves in with her. Under tranquilizers to support her life, Daphne goes from laughter to tears with disconcerting ease.
