Irritated by his son's injudicious marriage with a singer, the old Duke of Kilmarnock has lived for years a retired life on his beautiful estate in the South of France. A letter arrives stating that his son is dead, leaving a child. The old nobleman is inclined to ignore the matter, but when his secretary points out the danger of the title becoming extinct he is dispatched to interview the grandson. But he finds that " Pat " is not Patrick, but Patricia, a fascinating miss, with Eton crop and clothes of masculine cut. As she appears so boy-like, he introduces her in that character, knowing the old duke's antipathy to females. Embarrassing complications ensue, intensified by the arrival of a princess and her son on a visit. Patricia appears in fashionable feminine attire and plays the hostess. Her grandfather boasts of his own perspicuity, the secretary escapes censure, and the prince wins a bride.
