Edgar and Florence Kennedy live in a rented house owned by Mr. Henderson. When Henderson tells them that he is planning on selling the house, Edgar, under the terms outlined, wants to buy it. What he doesn't know is that Florence has lent all their money to her brother, Jack, to open a second-hand furniture store. In helping Jack at the store, Edgar does whatever he can to raise the $2,500 down payment in two weeks. His efforts get him and Jack into one predicament after another. Florence and her mother may have the answer to all their problems. But their old washing machine may throw a wrench into their grand plan.
