The Nets of Shame (1965)

Evros River Delta, Greece. Hiding behind an elaborate facade, Vrasidas, the cruel and money-grabbing president of a small fishing village, uses strong-arm tactics to exploit the fishermen and force them to sell their catch for a song. Unwilling to take the situation lying down, hard-working idealist Stefanos decides to take matters into his own hands to encourage the community's fishermen to form a cooperative and increase their income by buying a fishing boat. However, their bold decision doesn't sit well with Vrasidas and his men. And as if that weren't enough, Stefanos' secret affair with beautiful Maria, the only daughter of young widow Antigone, adds fuel to the fire. Will Stefanos' aspiration come true?
