Alfred, a young man of 37, has just returned from the mountains where he had gone to work on a book 'Responsibility of Man'. He has not been able to work on it and now has devoted himself to the care and education of his lame son Eyolf. Rita, his wife, is very upset by this change in him. She would like to possess him in love totally.
