The first years of Soviet power. Wealthy Aktambay decides to move his herd across the border. However, only the shepherd Morbagar knows the secret paths in the mountains. Therefore, Aktambay, giving Morbagar a girl as his his wife - the orphan Nurzhamal, and demands for this to indicate the way through the mountains. On the way to the border, Malbagar, heeding the requests of Nurzhamal, who does not want to be his wife, helps the girl escape from Aktambay's camp. Years pass. Nurzhamal, having graduated from a medical institute, returns to her native village. Here, along with medical activities, she works on the problem of using the healing properties of certain herbs. 1941 is approaching. The news comes of the treacherous attack of the Nazi hordes. Nurzhamal is sent to the army, where she widely uses the drug she discovered to treat wounds. The difficult years of the war are passing. In the audience of the medical institute, where Nurzhamal first came many years ago, she gives lectures to students from the professorial department.
