A dramatized documentary based on the memories of Jewish actor and tailor Alfred Maron (1912-1986). Filmed in color, Maron revisits his childhood area and his now closed-down tailor shop in Hanby Street, London Eastend, where old houses are now being demolished and new immigrants of Indian and African origin are moving in. Filmed in b/w are dramatized flashbacks to childhood memories including his Jewish upbringing around 1920 with family, neighbors, poverty and health issues, death of the father, school life, a rather lonesome birthday party and a life's first one week holiday at the seaside.
