Despite his relatively short life, Dan Turèll (1946-1993) left a body of writing that was overwhelming in both scope and importance. More than ninety publications resulted, from the first form-experimenting poems via the popular memoir "Vangede bilder" (1975) to the crime novels and newspaper articles of later years. In addition, Dan Turèll, partly in his books, partly through numerous shows and appearances on radio and television, understood better than any other Danish writer of his time the importance of having an image. 'Uncle Danny' with the black nails and the bald ice cream became popular. But what was the relationship between the author and his alter ego? Through archival material and statements from family, friends and colleagues, the film focuses on both the figure Uncle Danny and the person Dan Turèll.
