The story about Sam Houston's campaign against the secession of Texas from the Union capped by his colorful career as a soldier and a politician. Houston fought with Andrew Jackson against the Creek Indians during the War of 1812, captured Mexican General Santa Anna at San Jacinto in 1836, and was twice elected president of the republic of Texas, and became Governor of the state in 1859.
