Vital Space is an interactive feature movie which was installed at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. (In Canada, the film plays at Montreal Science Centre). The film takes its audience on a fantastic voyage through the body of a female astronaut ravaged by an alien virus, deep in space. An electronic heartbeat icon allows users to check the astronaut's vital signs, and allows users to zoom in on each of her physiological systems. Once they have located the contaminant, audience members mount full-scale warfare against the larvae and eggs using electrical, laser, or chemical weapons. The fight can be intense, with the audience hitting, poking, and slapping at their touch screens. At the end of the assault, the protagonist has been saved, and the victorious audience cheers and applauds
