Porter, a former drug addicted cop, seems to be getting his life back together. He has a healthy relationship with Sarah, an actress, who loves him and has just revealed that she is pregnant. He is thrilled. The only problem is that they are short of income. To help make things better, she signs a contract to do a film with her role somewhat pornographic. Porter comes with her to help make sure that things go safely for her. At the filming location, Sarah leaves to get ready for the shoot. Porter, feeling uncomfortable, grabs a bottle of vodka to help him relax. Soon, another actor arrives and talks him into doing a few tracks of cocaine. Before long, he is totally out of control. He's manhandled and knocked out. When he awakes, he is missing a shoe and lying in the gravel along railroad tracks that run along the Los Angeles River. Disoriented and worried about Sarah, he stumbles into the neighborhood trying desperately to find some assistance. Eventually, he is picked up by a pair of police detectives who take him in for questioning. He tells his story but has no names or address that he can provided for them to corroborate the story. They learn that he is a former officer himself and take him to homeless shelter for the time being. Befriend by one of the shelter workers, he takes matters into his own hands. He wrestles with the staffer to obtain the keys to his car. Then he uses his detective skills to track her down. The filming site is abandoned, but he finds a business card on the floor that is the beginning of a trail.
