The year is 1982, the first year of professional baseball in Korea. Gam Sa-yeong gets an offer to join the Sammi Superstars just because the team does not have any left-hander pitchers. Unlike its name, however, Sammi does not have any superstars at all. Far from being an ace, Gam spends most of his time as a relief pitcher, closing out hopeless, losing games. Nobody expects him to win. Any time that Gam takes the mound, the other team cheers in the knowledge that a win is all-but assured. And one day, the most unlikely, miraculous chance appears for Gam. He gets to start against the best team in the KBL, the OB Bears. OB's ace, Park Cheol-sun, is in the midst of a 20-game winning streak, and is most anxious to keep that streak alive. No pitcher on the Superstars wants to go up against Park and his formidable winning streak. No one but Gam Sa-yeong. What happens that one time - that chance we all have but once in our lives - when we can rise up and become something far greater than ourselves?
