After her divorce, teacher Petra Winter lives under the same roof with her mother Elisabeth. In contrast to the fun-loving former judge, Petra cannot really enjoy life. She is a strict and conscientious teacher, rather feared by her students. Petra is also not exactly popular with her colleagues, who give her a huge cactus for her anniversary. In order to get the better of her, school director Achenbach concocts an insidious plan: Ironically, the unpopular Latin teacher should stand in for the sports teacher Leuschner, who is absent due to injury, and train the school team, which is considered to be terrible, for the prestigious football game against the rival high school. The colleagues rub their hands and sincerely hope that Petra will make a fool of herself. Nobody suspects that the withdrawn teacher is a passionate football fan. She meticulously works out a training plan and tries to teach the kickers tactics and discipline - to no avail: the boys don't recognize Petra, who wants to bang her head through the wall. Only with the help of the new caretaker Christian Brenner, who has fallen in love with the Latin teacher, and the librarian Maria does Petra transform into a real team leader. But when the sports teacher, who has recovered, notices that the boys are suddenly kicking better than ever before, he feels his honor has been hurt and takes over the training again.
