Colonel Bridau, holding high position under Napoleon Bonaparte, is disinherited by his grandmother and his fortune goes to Jean Rouget, who promptly falls victim to the wiles of Flora Brazier, of the streets and footlights. He steals to satisfy her extravagances and flees France when Napoleon loses his power. The girl forms another alliance and he returns to win her back. The Colonel becomes deeply involved and is suspected of treason, but his uncle confesses in time that the fortune belongs to his sister, the Colonel's mother, and all ends well.
