Maryla is an example of women's emancipation in contemporary Poland: one of those women who have achieved professional success, occupy important positions at work and very often earn more than men, yet have less free time. This affects these women's private life. They simply don't have enough time to get involved in any relationship. However, they still need socializing and, very often, as they participate in events such as weddings or going out to the theatre, they need to be accompanied by a man. And this is where a 'man for hire,' a kind of Geisha, comes handy. Rafal, a young student at the Academy of Physical Training and our second protagonist, would like to be this kind of man. While following the story of Maryla, who is looking for a partner to accompany her at a wedding, and that of Rafal, who makes his first steps in this new profession, we examine this phenomenon in Poland, Germany and England.
