Gottfried Simmerauer's fatal diagnosis causes the uninvited return to his Alpine village mountain slope dairy farm of daughter Lena, a . geologist and environmental activist he ousted eight years ago, blamed for the death of her mother. She gets a cold welcome and a refusal to consider therapy, but Lena's daughter Theres (8), whom he blames her for never having presented, effortlessly wins Gottfried's affection, which forces her elders to get along for her sake. Lena also meets again her great love Anton Karcher, who entered a loveless marriage with Magda after she left without a word, wrongly assuming them a couple. Magda's employer, entrepreneur Dr. Manfred Sturminger, prepares a touristic ski center on the mountain slope, which Lena realizes is a crazy safety risk for geologic destabilization, as the village would lose its vital protective forest. Only Anton takes her seriously, learning the truth like her, and stormy rains traumatically prove the land slide danger.
