The film begins as Remo, a young man in his almost thirties, is leaving the cinema with his girlfriend, Miranda. He stops a cab on the street but only his girlfriend enters the car and leaves. He then calls Polyana and invites himself over to her house. Polyana is a bit older than him, she gets about in a wheelchair because of a strange nameless disease she has. The two start having an affair, though Remo cannot recognize what is exactly that attracts him to her. Polyana, on the other hand, seems very aware of what is happening. One day, arriving at her place, Remo meets Polyana's nurse, a man whose name he doesn't catch when pronounced (did the nurse say 'Julio' or 'Junior'?). They meet very briefly, but the nurse seems like a very strange man. The next day Remo is in bed with his girlfriend, Miranda, and they are having sex. In the middle of it, he grabs her leg very tight, hurting her. She gets scared and screams asking him to stop. He leaves, but thinks to himself that for a second he wasn't so much trying to get to Miranda's bones, as to Polyana's dry tree branches. We see then Remo buying some things in a supermarket, getting ready to meet Polyana. As he leaves the market he sees her nurse getting into a cab - The two exchange looks briefly. As Remo arrives at Poly's, she is asleep in bed. He comes slowly and lifts her covers, as to see her naked body in broad daylight. A horrendous chill goes down his spine when he sees her without the cover. But, as he covers her again, something even worst happens: he realizes she is dead. Strangled. Almost at the same time, the bell rings: It is Miranda, she followed him. In desperation, Remo stops and tries to think. He has the intuition that the nurse is involved in the murder. He calms himself by saying that all he will have to do is to tell the police that the killer is Julio. Or Junior. He doesn't know.
