Journey of the Bonesetter's Daughter (2011)

Journey Of the Bonesetter's Daughter follows the challenges of making the celebrated San Francisco Opera production of 'The Bonesetter's Daughter,' composed by Stewart Wallace and written by novelist Amy Tan. Based on her book of the same name, the opera draws heavily on the tragedy of suicide in Tan's maternal side of the family. By intimately tracking the struggles inherent in staging a production with high personal and emotional stakes, the film reveals how the author ultimately comes to terms with her own family history through the redemptive power of mounting her story on stage.
