Vera Martin was the only one of her extended Croatian Jewish family to survive the Holocaust. Now, at 87, she single-handedly raises thoroughbreds in the countryside near Rome, Italy. As she remembers her family's story of death and irredeemable loss, another story unfolds: the birth of a beautiful foal, destined to be a racecourse champion.
