When you ask Peter why he keeps a real 1944 DC-3 Airplane vegetating in his Armadale backyard, he replies: Because I like it. In 2003, aircraft engineer Peter Hanbury fulfilled his dream of owning a plane when he bought an old Douglas DC-3 airliner, also known as Gooney Bird. But this dream fulfillment also presented the biggest obstacle: How to get this 20 meter long and 30 meter wide plane into his Armadale backyard? Very quickly, Peter had to realize that it could not be transferred in one piece. Backyard Gooney Bird is not only the story of the old DC-3, but more the story of dreamer and inventor Peter Hanbury, who keeps himself (and his family) busy with his crazy ideas and projects.
