Four days before Christmas 1988 JIM SWIRE'S daughter Flora is murdered, along with 269 others when terrorists blow Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie. His life ripped apart, Jim, an unassuming country doctor, finds himself consumed by the need to find the truth of who killed her and why. All too soon his campaign pulls him away from his wife JANE, two other children WILLIAM and CATHY and onto the political and media world stage. When two Libyans are accused of the crime he even finds himself consorting with Colonel Gaddafi in an attempt to persuade him to give the suspects up for trial under Scottish law. Yet soon Jim's belief in the Libyans' guilt and in the integrity of both his government and its justice system is obliterated as the trial exposes a tangled web of compromised witnesses, tainted evidence and shady geopolitical game playing. When one of the men ABDELBASET MEGRAHIi is found guilty, Jim's search for the truth becomes a quest to find justice for the man accused of killing his daughter.
