The minute Avi Kremer, 29, finds out that he has only four years to live, he decides to do the impossible and find a cure for ALS, the incurable Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (the Lou Gehrig's disease) he has contracted. Avi, an M.B.A. student at Harvard Business School, musters all his business knowhow, analyzes why no one is interested in ALS, sets out on a search for funds, investors and researchers who will join him in his race. He's joined in his struggle by two other patients, Nir Tzuran and Dov Lautman, and he believes that he won't die of ALS and that there's a reason why he of all people contracted the disease. Time is of the essence and they give their all: they manage to raise tens of millions of dollars, dozens of researchers and investors develop an interest in the disease, and while they bring about a revolution in research of the disease their muscles become weaker and weaker. The documentary film Beating Time follows Avi and his friends' extraordinary struggle and achievements over five years as they search for the cure. Will they manage to beat time and survive until the cure is found?
