Set in an alternate history, Red Sky at Night depicts a victorious Nazi Germany now in its 80th year. It is the present day and Germany leads the world in space exploration and rocket achievement from the isolated Army Rocket Research Centre at Peenemunde on the Baltic coastline. Head of the German space program, General Dr. Erich Madeheim, is obsessed with landing man on Mars. His determination to not lose German astronauts in the 78,341,100 kilometer deep space flight to Mars leads him to the unthinkable and sinister decision to send prisoners from Eastern Europe as guinea pigs on a secret dry-run to circumnavigate the Red Planet.
