Peace in Our Pockets (2015)

The inspirational story of Kenyan activists transforming their democracy and defusing ethnic and political violence in the lead up to historic national elections in 2013. With cutting-edge text messaging technology and grassroots organizing, the Peacebuilders transform the very meaning of peace in their country. The film captures the work of the Sisi ni Amani peace team as they expand their network beyond Nairobi, mobilizing thousands of new members and ramping up their efforts to monitor tensions and defuse potential conflict. As Kenyans go to the polls and the votes are tallied, over half a million peace messages are sent across the country. Yet the Peacebuilders look beyond the election cycle to the intersections of peace, democracy and human rights.
