For the Davenport Family, times were hard. The family farm was doing poorly and the local economy was dismal. Times were changing. Joshua Davenport did not see a future in England for his wife and daughter, Mary Regina. A sea voyage would be a great adventure, leading to a land of plenty. But a sea voyage was in itself wrought with dangers.
