Killdeer (2019)

After being reassembled then reassigned, a robot aboard an observatory ship malfunctions. Now convinced it is a human being, the machine finds purpose in piecing together reels of stored memory it believes to be it's own. A particular series of fractured memories, in which a soldier is "recycled" and repurposed as a machine cause the robot to shift its focus from self reflection to self doubt. Unable to decipher truth from fiction, the machine self deactivates - an option never programmed into any recycled organic materials. A technician named Roofe, on the brink of a medical discharge himself, is called upon to determine what happened and to ensure it doesn't happen again.
