A Postman of Paradise (2007)

Mainland director Yu Zhong is famous for his affecting films like Trail of the Panda (2009), Far From Home (2002), and Roots and Branches (2001). His 2007 film A Postman of Paradise is based on the extraordinary but true life story of Sichuan country postman Wang Shunyou, who was voted among "China's 10 Personalities of the Year 2005" for his awe-inspiring dedication to his work. In the film, Sichuan's Muli Tibetan Autonomous County postman Wang Dahe (played by amateur actor Qiu Lin of Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles) walks miles of mountain and forest roads every day to deliver the mail. One day he is assigned to dispatch three important letters: one is an official notice asking villagers not to chop down trees, another is about voluntary doctor consultation for elderly cataract patients, and then there is an admission notice from the university for someone named Wang Yusheng. Dahe braves much danger on his journey to find that what he delivers is not just mail, but hope as well. A Postman of Paradise features China's Internet sensation and Qiang native beauty Ermayina in her film debut. The multi-national cast also includes Wang Shunyou's father as Wang Dahe's father, with real post office workers playing various supporting roles. This small but sincere film was named Best Drama at the 2007 Huabiao Awards and Best Music at the 2007 Golden Rooster Awards.
