After the loss of his beloved (grandmother) Frances. Max tries to end his life. As he fades, his Frances visits him to remind him that while she still loves him and will always be by his side, that he has to remember that he was born a fighter. The bond that Max and Frances share is a bond that remains through her death. Frances helped her son Truman raise Max from the time he was born after the death of his mother during childbirth. While Truman remains a loyal and loving father, Max relies heavily on Frances for his emotional support. Frances' death takes Max by surprised and he spirals out of control, drinking and taking pills to stop the pain that he feels from her death. Unfortunately, the grief is too much and he overdoses. Between life and death, he is visited by Frances who attempts to ease his mind and heart. Her love brings him back from the brink, and sparks a new relationship between him and his father. As his father realizes the depths of the pain in which his son has bore with the death of his beloved grandmother. As his father embraces, him, Max releases his pain.
