The film begins with Lily looking at paintings in an art gallery, she walks over to her favourite painting and sees a note sticking out from behind. She takes out the note and it reads 'Hi there', she finds the note sweet and writes out another note and places it behind the painting. After a few days, she returns to the gallery and finds another note, over the course of the film she and the anonymous writer of the notes communicate through them. Finally, Lily decides she wants to know who is writing the notes and offers to meet up and show them one of her favourite painting, 'Sunflowers' by Van Gogh. After a while, she returns to the painting and finds that it is gone, looking all around the gallery she finally finds the painting and sees that there is no reply. She leaves another note and walks away. Lily returns back to the gallery and overhears a older man asking a worker about 'Left Alone', the painting they'd been leaving the notes behind. She follows the man to the painting and sees him taking out a note. She heads over to him and introduces herself, he instantly realises she is the writer of the notes. They talk about why they both like the painting before heading off to have a look at Van Gogh's Sunflower.
