K.M. Mungenast

Ky Mungenast is an experimental/narrative filmmaker and video artist. She is drawn to exploring and fine tuning her female gaze in a male dominated western genre, and expanding this common thread in her work beyond pieces that are simply set in the 20th century American frontier. In 2021, Ky's undergraduate thesis western (In Bloom (2021), University of Tampa) was an official selection in the XI Almería Western Film Festival in Tabernas, Spain. Ky has collaborated frequently with independent singer/songwriter Flora Algera, co-directing a series of vérité style music videos with her to coincide with her EP, I'm Not Scared Enough. When not watching, writing, or working, Ky is always looking for the next chance to travel, and typically chooses destinations based off their proximity to famous roller coasters. Her favorites are Skyrush at Hersheypark and Thunderhead at Dollywood.
