John Stephen was a fashion designer, who was called "the King of Carnaby Street" in the 1960s, when his clothes were worn by members of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Bee Gees and the Kinks, that created a revolution in men's fashion. In 1957 the Glaswegian-born Stephen set up his first shop at No 5 Carnaby Street. John Stephen realized that teenagers no longer wanted to dress like their fathers and in an office at the back of his boutique he began to create flamboyant but affordable designs.
