José Luis Aparicio Ferrera

Cuban independent filmmaker. Studied film directing at the University of Arts (Cuba). His short fiction and documentary films have been screened at festivals in Cuba, the United States, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Guatemala and Chile. His film Dryland (2019) won the award for Best Fiction at the Bannabáfest in Panama and Honorable Mention at the Cinema Ciudad de México, as well as Best Production and Audience Award at the Muestra Joven, Cuba. His documentary Dreams adrift (2020, co-directed with Fernando Fraguela) premiered at BAFICI in Argentina. In 2020 he created the Cine Cubano en Cuarentena initiative. His latest film, Tundra (2021), has been selected for Sundance and Rio de Janeiro's Curta Cinema. He is a member of the editorial staff of Rialta magazine and head curator of the INSTAR Film Festival.
