Ted Simpson is a self shooting director, working across commercial and documentary, and is the founder of UK based production company, Just Trek. Ted's main interests lie in exploring stories of human connection to wild land and wild spaces. Ted's style has been described as cinematic yet personal, with an ability as a self shooter to capture authentic moments in often hostile environments and difficult conditions. In 2018, Ted released his first short film, 'This Is The Northland' which was recognised at several festivals across the UK, notably including the 2018 Kendal Mountain Film Festival, Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, Earth X Film Festival, and won the 'New Talent' Award at Adventure Uncovered Film Festival. Working with WWF International, Ted directed and produced a wildlife documentary online series entitled Expedition Congo, released in 2019. The six part series was the first of its kind for WWF, and looked at biodiversity in the Congo Basin. The series gained over a million lifetime views across all platforms. Since 2019 Ted has been working on his first feature documentary, The Cull - Scotland's Deer Dilemma, which explores the future of land management and rewilding in Scotland, through the prism of the management of red deer in the Highlands. This feature encompasses cinematic capture of the incredible Highland vistas, and marries those with intimate and personal characters from all sides of the debate. The Cull is on the international festival circuit, with a world premiere to follow in Autumn 2020. With Just Trek and his producing partner, Finbar O'Sullivan, Ted is currently developing two documentary series intended for broadcast, with one of these series building on his work and unique access gained from The Cull. Just Trek Collective is a production company that works across commercial and documentary, creating bespoke, story led films with an adventurous streak.
